Get Wisdom And Understanding

Proverbs 4:20-27

My son, give attention to my words; Incline your ear to my sayings. Do not let them depart from your eyes; Keep them in the midst of your heart; For they are life to those who find them, And health to all their flesh. Keep your heart with all diligence, for out of it spring the issues of life. Put away from you a deceitful mouth, and put perverse lips far from you. Let your eyes look straight ahead, and your eyelids look right before you. Ponder the path of your feet, and let all your ways be established.  Do not turn to the right or the left; Remove your foot from evil.

What do we believe?  We believe the Bible is God’s unique revelation and that every word was supernaturally inspired by the Holy Spirit as it was written down by various human authors.  The Bible is our final authority for all matters of belief and behaviour.

So, it makes sense that the most obvious source of godly wisdom and understanding is the Bible. There we find the Lord’s principles for right character, conduct, behaviour and conversation, which apply to the situations and decisions that confront each one of us every single day. Prov 4:5 says to get wisdom and to get understanding.

We’re all able to recall times when we didn’t respond wisely or we acted out of a lack of understanding. To ensure that we’re familiar with God’s standards and the importance of following them, we have to spend time reading and understanding His Word.

Knowledge and understanding comes from learning biblical principles; wisdom has to do with applying them.

In running the race for our Christian life, we acquire wisdom by absorbing and understanding Scripture and then doing what it says. God is simply looking for an obedient heart and a willing spirit.

The Scripture from Proverbs 4 is filled with a wealth of wise sayings. We would all do well to meditate on these things, to understand them and apply them in our lives. They will be life and health for us.

Do not be distracted by the things of this world by turning to the left or the right. Place your feet firmly on the foundation of God’s Word to get wisdom and to get understanding.  In that way, our feet will be removed from evil.

Keep your eyes on the Lord no matter what struggle you face. He has called you to overcome.
