Abiding Under His Shadow

Several weeks ago I wrote about the promised rest that the Lord has for each and every one of us.  Two months have gone of this year already, time will not stop and wait for us to catch up. How are you going in finding that promised rest?

Rest will not automatically happen or come to you.  We need to be intentional about putting time aside and search to find rest.

Since that journal entry, the Lord has kept reminding me and bringing me back to Psalm 91.  This has got to be one of my favourite chapters in the Bible.  Every time I read it I am encouraged and uplifted.  I get something new from it each time.

The first few verses of Psalm 91 reads…He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.  I will say of the Lord, “He is my refuge and my fortress; my God, in Him I will trust.”

A great place to find rest is in the secret place.  A secret place is any place where you can be alone with God. Just you and Him!!  For some that might be in a quiet room.  For others that might be taking a stroll along a beach with the water lapping at your feet.  It doesn’t really matter where it is so long as you have a place.

If you are able to find and dwell in that secret place, there is a promise of abiding under the shadow of the Almighty.  What a great place to be.  Under His shadow, He provides protection, safety, and refuge for you and I.

It is when we step out from under that shadow that we step out of the protection and safety the Lord provides.  We leave ourselves open to attacks from the enemy.  1 Peter 5:8 says:  Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour.  The enemy is out to devour you.  Why make it easy for him by not dwelling in the secret place and under the shadow of the Almighty?

What are you saying about the Lord and where have we placed our trust?  Let the confession of our mouths be that He is our refuge and fortress, that it is God, and only God, that we will place our trust.

Be encouraged that as you seek rest, no matter what you are going through right now, put your trust in Him, find a secret place where you are alone with God, and call upon the Name of the Lord.  He will never disappoint you as He casts out all fear and you abide under the shadow of the Almighty.
