To Live Is Christ
Paul wrote in his letter to the Philippians; “For to me, to live is Christ, and to die is gain” (Phil 1:21).
Here is a man who, from his immediate surroundings, did not have much of a future. Paul was in prison and was seriously looking at his options. He didn’t have too many!! His two options were basically to live or to die, but he was in two minds, hard-pressed between the two the Bible says.
‘To live is Christ’ essentially means ‘To live equals Christ. Living for Christ was his sole goal, ambition and purpose. As long as Paul continued to live, he would live for the purpose of glorifying Christ in everything he did. To him that would be a win!!
But for Paul, to die was a win too. His desire was to be with Christ, which at the time, looked the far better option. Either way, Paul knew that Christ would be glorified, and he was good with that. Paul didn’t really care whether he lived or died - to him either way he won!
Having Christ in our life is the only sure way for us to find peace, purpose and fulfilment. While we still have breath, let us live for Christ and encourage the ones around us to do the same. May we progress in our faith, find joy in any situation, bring glory to His Name and continually rejoice because…Christ lives in us!
