Good News

Last week we heard the sad news of another earthquake and tsunami that hit Indonesia. The 7.5-magnitude quake struck just off the central island of Sulawesi, setting off a tsunami that engulfed the coastal city of Palu.  The number of people known to have died has risen to over 1,400. Our thoughts and prayers are with the survivors and the families of those who have lost loved ones.

This event is just one of many around the world.  Bad news is constant and continuous.  The world in which we live needs to hear some good news.  Allow me to share with you some good news that all of us can be a part of.

It says in Rev 21:7&8…He who overcomes shall inherit all things, and I will be his God and he shall be My son. But the cowardly, unbelieving, abominable, murderers, sexually immoral, sorcerers, idolaters, and all liars shall have their part in the lake which burns with fire and brimstone, which is the second death.”

We have a long list of people here who will not inherit the kingdom of God.  Hang on, that doesn’t sound like good news!!

God has high standards—no liars, unbelievers, sexually immoral, murderers, etc. admitted.  And indeed, there will be none of these in the kingdom.

But here is the good news; former liars who have been made new will be permitted into the kingdom, former unbelievers will inherit the kingdom of God, so too will former murderers, former adulterers, etc.  Do any of these types of people sound familiar to you.  I am one that has been made new by the saving grace of Jesus Christ, are you?

For all of us, hope is not lost.  This is why the good news is good. The good news is the announcement that God is in the business of turning old, damaged people into new, holy people. That is who you and I are.

If you are one that has not accepted Jesus into your life, now is the time, so that you can share in the good news.  All you have to do is pray this simple prayer with me today and you will be saved:

 Dear God,

I admit that I am a sinner.  I believe that Jesus Christ died for me paying the penalty for my sins.  I want to turn from my sin and accept Jesus Christ as my personal Lord and Saviour.  I commit myself to You and ask that You take control of my life and help me to become the kind of person You want me to be.  Thank you for loving me. In Jesus’ name.  Amen
